The Shot Blockers! |
The Stealers! |
When authors classify a subject, usually their purpose is to show or explain a pattern that may have never been noticed. A sportswriter, for example, might “observe that great basketball defenders tend to fall into one of three groups based on their style of play: the shot blockers, the stealers, and the brawlers. Sometimes, writers also classify to persuade readers that one group is superior: that same sportswriter might argue that shot blockers are the most effective defenders because they not only create turnovers like the stealers, but they also intimidate the opponent like the brawlers do (Repetto 210).
The Brawlers! |
The purpose of classification essay is to make divisions,
classifications, or categories in order to identify specific differences which help explain,
instruct, and/or argue. So if you don't understand basketball, let me explain a classification essay using pizza. Have you ever argued with your friends on where you want to go for pizza? If so, you examined the subject of pizza
restaurants. Your purpose was to justify
why your favorite pizza restaurant is better than your friends’. Therefore, you took the time to tell your
friend everything great about your favorite pizza restaurant and everything
horrible about their favorite pizza restaurant.
You might have even made a concession, where you acknowledged that their
restaurant happens to have something you really like, but you followed up that
concession with a rebuttal—fought back-- with why your choice is better.
Your assignment is to write a classification essay. You may choose any topic, provided your essay
remains PG-13. And as a reminder, PG-13
can have adult-like topics, but they must be legal, refrain from sexual
innuendos or even explicit sexual references, and be of the nature where your God-fearing
elderly grandmother would enjoy reading.
So please keep the content of your essay appropriate. Use your brain and not “shock factors”.

DUE DATES:
Your Process Essay: Post By Friday, June 21st.
Your Comments on Two of your Peer's Essays: Post By Monday, June 24th.
Please be advised of the following:
- This is a Graded Assignment of Pass/Fail. No Rubric included; but nonsense writing will not receive credit--and this includes pointless comments to your peers such as: "I really liked your essay" or "I never knew how to change a tire before and now I know." You need to practice noticing details or the lack thereof. But make your comments supportive and meaningful; otherwise, don't comment and just lose part of the credit.
- Use Net Etiquette when responding to your peers, i.e., "Dear Kanoe" and "Sincerely Michael."
- Do not adhere to MLA format for your essay, meaning heading, spacing, font, and such; otherwise, your essay will take up too much room on the blog site. But give your essay a title.
- Include your name and the name of your Academy at the end of the essay.
- Most importantly: Have Fun! Writing should be fun and not painful. So find something that makes you want to share it with others. This way you will be able to do your best work and practice what makes a good writer: Someone who cares deeply and passionately about their subject. Once you care about your topic/subject, the rest of the essay becomes easy.
Baseball Pitchers, Football Quarterbacks, Soccer Goalies
ReplyDeleteEveryone always says there is the star on the team, the MVP, the playmaker. So how do we know exactly who this player is? What exactly is the “star” player and why is he so important? We all know that every sport has one, such as the ACE pitcher on the baseball team, The star quarterback on the football team, and the goalie on the soccer team. All of these players have something in common, even though they are different sports. The stars make the game, the pitcher, the quarterback, and the goalie.
First off is the Pitcher on the baseball field. Personally I am a baseball player and the pitcher has a very big role during a game. The pitcher carries all of the weight on their shoulders. The game is always in their hands. They can bring everyone up to joy, or down to disappointment. The game usually goes by whatever team pitches the best wins. The pitcher is said to be one of the captains on the field. They just have so much control of the game, and because of that they are the stars on the field.
Secondly is the quarterbacks. They also hold all of the weight on their shoulders. They hold a very big role to fulfill. The thing about quarterbacks is that everyone loves them. Who doesn't love the quarterback? I surely don’t know anyone. The quarterback is the heart of the team. They truly are the playmakers. They make the game happen. They score the touchdowns, throw passes, call all the plays, and can tell pretty much anyone on the team what to do. They are the most praised, but also the most blamed. If you lose the game you get a whole lot of crap from just about everyone. You either go big or go home. They are truly the leaders on the field.
Lastly is the goalies. Unlike the pitcher and the quarterback, they don’t really control how the game goes, the speed of the game, and how much points are scored. But yet are still so in common with them. The goalies are pretty much the life-savers. They can save the games just like the pitcher and quarterback. They can get highly praised for winning the game, or beaten on for losing the game.
All in all, these players are all stars on the field. Even though they are so different in terms of skill, they all have the same purpose. They are all very similar, they are all playmakers and MVP’s in their own way. These are the players that make the game what it is. This is what brings all the excitement, disappointment, blood, sweat, and tears into sports. These are the stars, the pitcher, the quarterback, and the goalie.

Stereotypes
ReplyDeleteHigh school is just a pile of sunshine, notebooks, and dog poop isn’t it? It’s full of people who judge you based on how you look because sometimes that actually determines who you are. As unbelievably hormonal human beings, we need a way to feel like we’re a part of the rest of society and to do so, we put ourselves into groups based on what other people see. These groups are called cliques. Cliques are groups of people who share the same interest, so basically, they’re just groups of friends. The thing is, teens give all these cliques stereotypes. What we don’t realize is that those stereotypes stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Every high school has that group of guys who you can look at and you can obviously tell that they “know” a lot of girls. They may have qualities such as the body of a god, eyes that shine like a thousand suns, and hair that’s more perfect than that of Elvis Presley. Yes, quite a few of them are attractive, but honestly they fit so easily into that stereotype that it’s actually quite boring to look at them. These boys are the boys who seem to be able to do absolutely everything such as play various types of sports, sing every note from A to Z, and -- on rare occasion -- are able to pass every class with flying colors. They are the boys that seem better than Elvis Presley.
Of course, Elvis needs his Priscilla. These “Priscillas” are called either “preps,” “rich chicks,” or my personal favorite “the trog squad.” The word “trog” used to describe their personality because, of course, these girls aren’t exactly ugly. They are the girls whose hair flows like the Amazon river, whose clothes are of the highest value, and whose skin is softer than a baby’s rear end. They are the girls who go past confidence and head into the bowels of narcissism. The girls who have their head so far deep in their posterior that their minds have no chance of being open. They are the girls who don’t even realize that they are frowned upon because they ignore the frowns and hunt for the smiles that ever so dearly desire.
Nerds are people who have a far different desire. They are the ones who don’t have a set gender, but obviously have a set goal in life.Nerds are those who ALWAYS wear glasses that cover their whole face, usually have braces, and try their hardest to get their butts into Harvard or Yale. Most of the time, anyone Asian is seen as a nerd because of course they are “Asian not B-sian.”
Obviously anyone put into any of these categories must follow everyone else’s beliefs of how they are as people. For example, if you are perceived as a jock, you must then play all the sports and sing all the songs and pass all your tests. This is how high school stereotypes work all over the world. There is no such things as being normal or being yourself. In order to function you can’t be yourself. You must stick to the status quo.

Dear Erica,
DeleteTHIS ESSAY. YES. As soon as I saw the topic was stereotypes, I had to read this (also because it's you writing it, haha). Being the way I am, I'm very familiar with the types of "cliques" and how many of them are discriminated upon.. Though, I don't necessarily believe that you have to do what people think you do (like you're a jock you HAVE to play sports), because though lots of people have called me "goth" or "emo", I don't sit around in graveyards cutting myself or worshipping satan.

Dear Erica,
DeleteI reeeeeaaalllyyy liked the metaphores and similes you used in your writing. It made reading so much funner and more interesting to run into phrases like "hair that flows like an Amazon river" and youre use of the word "posterior" was brilliiaanntt. I dont quite understand why you don't think these stereotypes can be fought? I have friends from all walks of life and love it that way (: But anyway i really liked the uniqueness in your essay. I wish i could write more like you, because i always feel kind of bland in my style.. but keep it up!

Video Games
ReplyDeleteSome people asks what the best categories for a video game. There are very many types of video games when I was a kid until now. I played video games as much as I could because I was kind of addicted before. I’m slowly trying to get away from playing too many games because it is really bad for your eyes. Although Video Games are bad for you, they are really fun to play, when you choose the right category game that will suit you.
The first type of video game is a classic video game which was one of the best kind of game out there. These type of games were very simple, just like shooting a ball into a basket with nobody around, just you, the ball, and the basket. Some Games that I would consider a classic would be games like Super Mario, Tetris, pac-man and Sonic the hedge hog. Those games were simple and fun with a straight point with simple objectives.
Another type of video game category is a modern video game. These kind of games are take a more modern and realistic take to what could be going on in the world, sports, and military combat. Some games that are consider to be in this category could be NBA games, A brand name called Call of duty, or Sim City. In another perspective take the basket ball example I gave in the previous paragraph but add a team on both halves of the court making the shot more difficult and more complex for a shot to go in.
My final type of video game category are games that are set in futuristic times. These games think and give ideas of futuristic settings that give a story line for the person playing the game. Games that take place in the future are games such as the Halo series, zombie apocalypse, the world ending, space games etc. If it is hard to picture in your head try to think about what your future maybe like and how you may live or see yourself.
Choosing a game category is important, especially if you are going to spend a bit of money on the perfect video game for yourself. If you’re really into a game, go for something that will you’ll have the most fun out of it. These are great categories for video games, and fun and enjoyable types of games. These games make the gaming life more enjoyable.

Drivers
ReplyDeleteThe wind through your hair, music blasting, and no parents. That must mean you have your drivers’ license! Driving is an inevitable part of life once we start. Driving also means the slow pokes, the goody goods, and the road ragers. We all know that they are everywhere, no matter where we go. We all think that “They drive horrible, why can’t they drive better like me?” Well in reality we are in one of those categories in other drivers eyes.
First off are the slow pokes. They’re probably one of the most irritating drivers in my eyes. Because no matter what they are always going below the posted speed limit. This category usually includes older drivers or beginner drivers. These are the people who are always going under the speed limit. Have you ever gotten behind a slow poke that’s going five-ten mph under the speed limit, and just want to pass them but you can’t? Well I know I have.
Secondly are the goody goods. They are the ones that always have their hands at ten and two, and they are ALWAYS going the posted speed limit, not even one mph over. This category can include every age, just depending on if they’re a good driver or not. These drivers are the safest because they are usually following all the rules and guidelines to driving. When you drive you should strive to be this kind of driver because they are the mostly rule abiding and cautious.
Lastly are the road ragers. You know the ones that I’m talking about. The ones that think they own the road because they are going ten mph over the speed limit, and are driving recklessly without a care in the world. These drivers don’t have any concern for the people that they are driving on the road with. They don’t consider the risk that they are putting people through with all their swerving and speeding through lanes. This is one of the worst drivers to be in my opinion.
Overall we will always have to drive with all of these kinds of drivers. They’re all different, but somehow all essential now days to the driving world, because they all make driving what it is, and it is what brings excitement into driving. We will always have slow pokes, goody goods, and road ragers. What driving type do you think you are?

Different Types of Mall Goers
ReplyDeleteThere are four different types of people you see at the mall. The loud people, the creepy people, the mallrats and the normal people. Everyone has seen at least one of each of these categories in their mall-going lives. To truly know which one you are, you must first learn about all of the others.
First up are the loud people. These wonderful citizens of the mall believe that the mall is their own property and have no scruples about yelling and screaming in the mall premise. These individuals are usually in groups of three to ten people. Rarely do these people ever buy anything. To these people, the mall is more of a playground and relaxing place than a place to buy what you need and then leave. Most normal mall goers dislike these people due to their ear shattering yells and their ability to not care about anyone else.
The creepy people are arguably the worst mall goers. These people dress like they just put on whatever they found when they rolled out of bed and make unsettling eye-contact with you at awkward times such as when you are walking into a changing room. Some examples of typical creepy people are awkward eye contact, ragged clothes, breathing on your neck, standing oddly close to you and saying things like: “You smell like a peach cobbler.” or “What does your house look like?” most everyone find these kinds of people weird. Yes, even the obnoxiously loud people dislike the creepy people.
Next up are the mallrats. The ones who live and breathe in the mall. They wake up, grab their “swag” hat, their kendama and are out the door headed to the mall. they only actually leave the mall after being either dragged out by security or when their mom asks why they aren’t home at 11 P.M. These docile mall goers rarely talk to others except for similarly dressed mallrats. Since they leave most everyone alone, they are only a minor inconvenience standing next to kiosks and staring at their phone or attempting to do the craziest kendama trick fathomable for them. These members of mall society are the second most acceptable people at the mall.
Last, but certainly not least are the normal people. These people go to the mall with a purpose: to shop. They get what they need and get out. I would consider myself to be a normal person. Being normal doesn’t mean you have to be alone or silent. You can talk in a respectable decibel with your friend without being deemed a loud person. Most mall goers are normal people. They go with a purpose to shop rather than to draw attention to themselves, waste time, or get their kicks out of creeping people out. No one dislikes the normal people. However, normal people usually attempt to avoid loud and creepy people. Normal people are, in my opinion, the best kind of mall goers.
These four groups describe the basic personalities of typical mall goers. Try to figure out which one you are and if you’re happy about it. However, no matter which one you are, you can work at being a more normal member of the mall going society.

Attitudes towards money.
ReplyDeleteMoney is a necessity in life, and by now I hope we all know that. I mean, lets face it. Most "normal" people in the world today live on a day to day budget. Sometimes, it's hard enough to buy groceries and pay the bills. Well, there are so many attitudes towards money, but there are three specific that you should pay attention to. Do you save money, spend money, or carelessly spend money.
First are the spenders, the ones who spend their money on a specific manner. They don't necessarily save their money, but they also don't waste it on unnecessary items. Spenders are the people who, when they get their paycheck and have been wanting an item for awhile, they will find the reasons why they should buy it. For example, cameras. Ever look at a electronic store and see that $1,000 camera starring at you? Well I'm sure I have. Spenders think of all the fun they can have of it, possibly even think of the future and how that camera might help them.
However, with a careless spender, they like to buy things to excess. For example, Jewelry. Personally, I don't think I own anything more than $20, but a careless spender may go to a jewelry store and feel the need to buy that new $500 ring. These people can be easily spotted at the mall. Ever see those people with about 10 bags in there hand and they look like they're about to fall over due to the weight? Yep, that's them. I mean come on dude, how many shirts can you actually wear in a day?
Lastly, a saver. The person who always window shops. What's that you ask? Well, it's a person who likes to look at the item that they, oh so desperately want, but always find a excuse not to buy it. Saving money isn't always a bad thing. I mean, what if you got into a situation where you needed money fast. Luckily you decided to save that $20 you worked for, instead of spending it on something useless.
In the end, rather you spend your money or save it, you worked hard for it and it's all up to you. Personally I'd rather not spend it on unnecessary items and save it for something I really want. But hey, that's just me. What would you do? Save it for something better, or spend it on something you'll forget about in a month or two.

The Three Types of Tourists
ReplyDeleteIn Hawai’i, tourists are everywhere. Some people hate the tourists and would rather not have them around, others respect the tourists’ rights to come here and most people actually maintain a steady income solely because of tourists. There are plenty of stereotypes about tourists and people like to joke around about them. For those looking to classify the tourists into different categories, there would be three. The categories of tourists are as follows: The hotel-stayers, the picture-takers, and the action seekers. Each of the categories has similarities and differences to one another and they each describe a large group.
The first category of tourist: the hotel-stayers, are the “lazy” kinds of tourists. These people are often older or on their second or third vacation to kaua’i . Hotel-stayers spend pretty much their entire vacations in the confines of their hotel area. If you’re one of the people who dislikes tourists these ones are probably your favorites because you don’t have to deal with them. Among the few reasons for hotel-stayers to leave the hotel can include going out to dinner or going to the north shore.
Next up are the picture-takers, these tourists may have had other plans when they bought their tickets to Hawai’i but in the end their entire vacation is dedicated to taking pictures. You’ll see them all over the place, they will pull over in their cars to take pictures of chickens and they will be the ones to clutter the main tourist attractions. Most people would consider these to be the most irritating tourists simply because of what they are prepared to do in order to get the right picture and how that can affect us. For example, they might take up a walkway or block an intersection on the roadways.
The third and final type of tourist is the action-seeker. Most of the activities enjoyed by these tourists are not what you’d be involved in(surf lessons, boat charters, etc.) so you probably won’t mind them at all. Action seeking tourists are easily identifiable by their rental jeeps and age, most action seekers are young and/or on their first visit to Kauai. In comparison to picture-takers and hotel-stayers you will probably have the most respect for the action seekers in their attempts to actually enjoy the island.
Almost all tourists are normal in their regular lives, but the transformation that takes place upon their visiting Kauai is immediate and unignorable. Be it because of excitement or not knowing anyone or caring about what anyone thinks, all people change on vacations and that’s something that we have to accept. However, at the same time it may be entertaining or otherwise beneficial for you to see what category a tourist you know fits into. Next time a relative visits, think about what kind of “stereotype” category they fit into.

Ways To Get Over a Mild Sickness
ReplyDeleteBeing sick is no fun; you feel really bad and miserable sometimes. It can range from being uncomfortable to deal with to being absolutely terrible for you. When a sickness is more than just a discomfort, when you don’t want to do anything you are so unhappy, there are three main things we do to get better. These things are eating food/medicine, doing leisurely activities, and taking care of your health.
When you are sick, one way people get over it is by eating certain kinds of food or taking medicine. Normally, you eat something that is good for sickness like chicken noodle soup or toast or something. You also may take some sort of medicine when you are sick, depending on what sickness you have. Eating the right kind of food or taking a certain medicine during the time you are sick is definitely a way to get over a mild sickness.
Doing leisurely activities when you are sick such as watching movies or reading books is really fun. Having a movie marathon where all you do is watch a bunch of movies or a bunch of episodes of a TV show is awesome. Spending a day doing nothing except exactly what you feel like doing, exactly when you want to is the only thing that is good about being sick, besides the fact you don’t have to go school if you are sick on a weekday. You don’t have to do chores or work during that period of time if you are lucky, all you have to do is relax in your living room doing nothing. This is another way to get over a mild sickness, and is very effective if you do it right.
Taking care of your health is the best way to get over a sickness in my opinion. Getting enough sleep is an example, if you don’t get enough rest your body can’t heal itself and fight infections. 8 hours of sleep every night is usually a good amount for your body. Taking vitamins is a good part of taking care of your health as well. When you take vitamins it helps you to be healthy and ready to get better. Make sure to take care of your body and it will help you.
Each of these is a way to get over a sickness. They all help you recover from a mild illness and are all effective. However, taking care of your body’s is the best way to recover. I guess all of these are in some way taking care of yourself and improving your health, but in different ways. In reality getting over a sickness is improving your health, so doing all these is improving your health and getting over a sickness.

Dear Erica,
DeletePlease do not become an English teacher. Getting angry over grammatical errors is just silly. After teaching English for the last thirteen years I would be a very, very, angry person had I allowed all the grammatical errors and misspelled words affect me emotionally.
Please remember the goal for the blog site is to help everyone become a stronger writer; but this will be hard to achieve when others feel intimidated by comments that are not instructive in nature. And had you explained specifically what was grammatical incorrect and then explained how to correct it, I might not have felt the need to comment back to you.
It is very difficult to explain within a Comment Box a specific grammatical problem to any student who lacks a solid understanding of traditional grammar that was taught in a sequential manner. So please let me do this during class. Keep your focus on other details such as organization, style, voice, and originality. By looking at these, you will become an even stronger writer. Please put away your “red” pen.

Soccer
ReplyDeleteIn the game of soccer playing your positions is key. There are 11 positions on the field at a time. The position that is very important is the defense. Of course there isn’t a unneeded position but if they can’t score they can’t win. Although you only hear of star strikes scoring all the goals (getting all the glory), well it’s because goals win games. But defense saves games.
In soccer the defense is the determining factor of the win or lose of a season. The defence is the final wall before the one on one with the goalie. Starting with the stopper, at the head of a diamond formation. They apply the first pressure. The same would go with the two fullbacks out wide. These three positions are the first line, meant to stop or slow down a attack. then behind these three is the sweeper. The last resort of the defense before the goalie. There job is to stop the attack and regain control of the ball. The defence stops goals and you can’t win if you don’t score, being why defense is an important area of a soccer team.
Next is the strikers and midfielders. These positions are at equally important. The strikers need to score otherwise a team can’t win. Thats all the striker has to do is score the goals(being very important to the team). Then there's the midfielders. The midfielder moves the ball around and sets up the plays for the strikers. They also some defense needing to drop back. Therefore evening out in importance with the strikers.
To conclude all of the areas of the soccer field are important. But to not lose your team can’t be scored on and thats done with a good defense. Strikers need to score to win, and to win you need control of the field as a midfielder. These positions are all different yet apart of the same whole that brings a team together.

Different Types of Travel Planning
ReplyDeletePlanning a trip can cause a lot of stress. There are many different approaches to planning any sort of trip and each one has its own positive and negative aspects. You must carefully analyze every approach to see which one will help you get the most out of your trip.
The first approach to travel planning can be called the control method. This method would mean you plan out what exactly you want to do every single day you are away. Maybe in some cases even down to where you are eating your meals and making bus tour reservations before you even get to a city. This method is sure to make sure you don’t miss anything you were planning on doing and that you have enough amount of time time to see the exact sites you picked out from your travel guide. You are sure to go home feeling accomplished and you know that you hit all the big places. But what if you are on your our bus and you see a neat looking church, old shop or little gourmet cafe. With this type of planning you left no time to stray off the path and can’t go explore all these places that you ran upon and may never get to see again. This type of travel is probably best for people who like being in control, but this type of travel will never let you explore the unknown.
The second approach to planning a trip is referred to as going with the flow. This type of travel will make it so that when you are leaving home you don’t have anything to worry about and won’t be stuck working on anything in advance. This approach means that you can do whatever you want and don’t have to worry about being to on time for your bus tour or dinner reservations. You can explore whatever you want at your destination and don’t really have to stress out about anything. This type of traveling is good if you have a lot of time at your destination and wasting time isn’t a big deal. This approach works for mainly younger people traveling by themselves or with one other person. Also if you have about double or more of the time then in the control method. The largely negative impacts of this method include the fact that you can find yourself missing out on a lot of things because you never planned anything in advance and didn’t set any time aside for special things that you really wanted to do. You also may end up trying to find food late at night or not having a good place to stay because you put it off until its too late. Overall this method can leave you feeling like you wasted a lot of time during your trip when you could have figured out things before hand.
The final approach to planning for a trip can be referred to as the compromise method. This approach is a mix or the control method and go with the flow. You do research before your trip and make sure to set up plans for around two thirds of the trip. This make sure that you don’t miss any of the important sites such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Vatican City in Rome. This method also allows you to leave the other third of your stay to check out things that you never planned on seeing but catch your eye when you are walking down the street or hear about from people you meet in your travels. This method gives you control without having every second planned out and freedom without utter chaos. Most people will find after trying this approach that they made their trip more enjoyable and will want to use it again and again. Now its not completely perfect if you always need a plan then it will throw you off your games. In the same sense if you hate being confined to plans at all it may feel constraining.
Everyone has their own preference for the way they want to plan their trips but the compromise methods blends both extremes into something that leaves the traveler feeling as if they couldn’t have filled their time any more enjoyably and that every penny they spent was worth it.

The Three Different Types of Drivers
ReplyDeleteIn life, freedom is looked at as a principle of life. One of the biggest events in a teenager’s life is when they finally get their drivers license. It brings more opportunities, in some cases more attention, and especially more freedom. Everybody, though, drives differently and categorizes into one of the three main driving categories. These three categories are in fact the “scardy-cat” driver, the “Ah whatever” driver and last but not least the “daredevil” driver
The “scardy-cat” driver is the person that you always get stuck behind and they make you late to something that is usually very important. They are the ones who, when you look into the car, their knuckles on both hands are ghost white from gripping the steering while too hard and their eyes are filled with fear every time a car approaches. They are the ones who go way under the speed limit and cause bumper-to-bumper traffic from Safeway to Coco Palms and hit every single reflector on the right side of the road. They are the ones who, if you are in the same car with them, you can’t even have a conversation because they are so focused on the road that they just can’t even hear or see anything else. They are the drivers that nobody likes.
The “ah whatever” driver is the most common driver on Kauai. You will usually see them relaxed in their chair with one hand on the wheel and the other hanging out the window. They usually go a little bit over the speed limit casually and just blend in to the rest of traffic. Occasionally you will see them talking on the phone or changing the song on their iPod but not usually doing anything to cause lots of danger to themselves or others.
Finally, it’s the daredevil driver. There aren’t too many of them around and especially not on Kauai. You will mostly see them in the mainland on the freeways in their Ferraris or Lamborghinis with a friend or two who they will sometimes race. They often go way above the speed limit to show off their cars and their courage and will weave through the cars in and out of lanes. These are the drivers that everybody admires and says, “wow look at that” or, “cool” every time they come to a near death situation.
Somebody’s personality can sometimes be judged by the way they drive. For example if the hold the steering wheel so tight their knuckles are ghost white, it is fair to say that they don’t like to take risks in life or face any kind of situation that may have a negative consequence. So the next time you judge a driver, think about what kind of a driver you are.

Basketball. Offensive, Defensive and Role Players
ReplyDeleteBasketball is a very intense sport. Physically it doesnt match up to hockey or football, but activity wise a lot of movement is involved. In basketball there are three types of players. Mostly offensive players, mostly defensive players or role players. The offensive players main priority is to score rather then to be dominant on defense. Defensive players main priority is to be dominant on defense. Role players on the other hand do whatever else needs to be done.
First off is the offensive players. Offensive players are very important people in basketball. Without scoring you can't win games and with the scores running up into the hundreds every one needs an offensive threat. One example of this is Manu Ginobli of the San Antonio Spurs. Manu is a star player who comes off the bench who can play both defense and offense, but his main purpose is scoring with the second string. In a NBA game everyone gets tired at some point and when you're subs go in there is rarely a dominant scorer. In the Spurs case it's Manu. Coming off the bench he scores about twenty-one points a game. Which is a very good number. Personally offensive players are important because the team with the most points at the end of the game will be the winner, but not as important as defensive players.
Offense wins games, but defense wins championships. Defensive players are an important part in every sport. The defense is who prevents the opposing team from
Scoring. Which in most games the stronger defense will end up being the winners. An example of this kind of player is Thabo Sefalosha of Oklahoma City Thunder. Thabo is an average player overall, but what the thunder have him on the team for is a defensive specialist. Thabo is one of the premier defenders in the league and his job is to shut down or slow down the opposing teams star scorer. This is a case where the player is a mainly defensive present.
Offense and defense is important in basketball, but to win a basketball there is a lot more. Loose balls, rebounds, charges and fouls. These extra things that happen in the course of a game are usually handled by the role players. One example of this kind of player is Nick Collinson of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Nick is on the team to get all the " dirty work " done. When he is put in it is to get rebounds leading to extra possessions or times the offense gets the ball, charges leading to opponents turnovers or even scoring and playing defense. Role players help the star players win games.
I can say that offensive players are the most important or defensive players are, but when you look at the big picture you can't win without the other. Say you only have offense. The opponents will match your sore exactly because of no defense. Say you only have defense. Then you won't be able to score a single point and you'll lose. In the end you need all three offensive, defensive and role players to win in basketball.

ReplyDeleteTypes of Irritation
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful new day and you decide to say good morning to the first stranger you see. The response you get is, "go jump off a cliff!". I bet that wasn't what you were expecting to happen. Now either that person needs professional help, or you've got yourself someone who is extremely irritated. Getting irritated is a natural occurrence in humans, but how we choose to express it, is where we begin to differ.
The first type of irritation is, the "Sarcastic Gossiper". This is one of the most common ways that people show their irritation. It is also on the mild side of the spectrum. A sarcastic gossiper usually acts fairly normal, aside from some snide comments and agitated facial expressions. They will also be by a few of their friends, noticeably talking about the origin of their irritation.
"Silent but Deadly" is another type of irritation. You definitely want to be careful around these kind of people, or better yet stay away from them until they've fully cooled down. Most of the time, someone who is silent but deadly will become anti-social all of a sudden, and go off by themselves. That's the tricky part. Any good person would want to comfort their friend, but the second you do that is when the deadly comes out and they begin snapping out for no apparent reason at all. Not a pretty sight, trust me!
Last but not least, their is a type of irritation that I call, "Code Red". This intensity of irritation is potentially dangerous, and should be handled with extreme caution. People under the influence of code red are usually in the state of mind that they hate the world. Because of that, nothing you do or say will help them to calm down. Also their thinking becomes irrational, and they might do things that they will regret later. The main way to tell if someone is code red, is if they look straight up, pissed off.
Now you know that irritation ranges from minor threats to unpredictable danger, depending on the person or situation. I know that recognizing and understanding different types of irritation isn't that important, but it can be helpful. For example, if someone tells you to go jump off a cliff, you'll know why. And remember to watch out for Code Red. . . For you're safety, as well as the irritation victim.

Dear Autumn,

Love
ReplyDeleteParents all show their love in different ways throughout their kids. All kids have heard the famous saying “We love you all equally” but is it really true? Most families have more than two kids and having to spread the love equally can get a little complicated.
First of all, let’s talk about the oldest child or the one that carries all the weight. This child will always be told to do the most difficult of chores. But in some cases, depending on the age differences, will tell the other siblings to do the chores. The weight carrier usually watches over the little siblings and protects them at all costs, no matter how annoying the sibling may be. Parents are especially harder on the weight carrier because the other siblings look up to him/her. They also push the weight carrier to success so the siblings may follow in the footsteps of their idol.
Then, there is the middle child or most commonly known as the “awkward one”. No one really pays attention to this child. But yet they can’t get away with much. Don’t get me wrong, parents still love this child. But the awkward child usually gets all the ‘hand me downs’ from the older sibling and gets limited things when they ask for something. They always get blamed for something and never like to leave the comfort of their room. As the years go on and the weight carrier graduates and moves out of the nest this child gets piled with all the responsibility that the weight carrier left behind.
Lastly, there is the youngest or known as the “golden child”. The golden child have ALL the attention and will always be known as the baby of the family. This child gets anything and everything their hearts desire. They can’t do anything wrong, even when they do something wrong it’s seen as something adorable, most of the time. Usually, the baby has little to no responsibility and gets to sit around doing whatever they want. But when they don’t do their responsibility guess who gets blamed. That’s exactly right, the middle child.
Overall, even if you’re that weight carrier, awkward one, or even the golden child you are very special to the family. You make the family a whole, the missing puzzle piece. More importantly you should know that your parents do love you one way or another, so don’t think differently.

Ways of Procrastination
ReplyDeleteFrom the moment you enter school as a freshman, to the day before your commencement ceremony takes place, your four high school years are filled with the phrase "I'll do it later." Most of this procrastination takes place when the student begins to justify his/her reasons as to why putting off the assignment would be "alright". Others like to indulge in their favorite pastime, or simple do nothing. Whichever method you decide to use, you'll be sure to put off your required assignments.
The term "a do-nothing day" translates into more than just relaxing on your days off. For many students enrolled in the public school system, it means tossing your work aside and picking up that television remote. This style of procrastination is simple because it requires a person to do, well, nothing! Who doesn't like something that's effortless?
Sometimes students (and possibly adults in the workforce) use justifications as a way to procrastinate. For example, an essay might be due on the day of your older brother/sister’s graduation party. So the procrastinator would say “I’ll write the essay later because this party is very important.” This method of dawdling is much more practical because the person has a somewhat legitimate reason as to why he/she cannot complete an assignment. It just goes to show that people can make up bizarre reasons for being slothful in their work.
Although the previous methods of procrastinating were adequate, the most effective way to procrastinate is to be distracted by something material. Most teenagers nowadays own a smartphone, whether it be an iPhone, Android, or some other type of mobile device that can easily access anything and everything. From surfing the web, to playing Angry Birds, your train of thought will lose it's way when you start to indulge in these types of things. Trust me, I'm a teenager. I know how these things work.
In the end, no matter how you choose to waste your time, you will contribute to the growing movement of procrastination that is sweeping the nation. Just make sure your delay is well spent, beating your high score on Temple Run.

Dance Styles
ReplyDeleteWhat is Dance? Dance is universal. Dance is everywhere. Dance is an art. It involves movement of the body to any sort of music. It is preformed all over the world, preformed as a form of emotional expression. There are many styles of dance, African, ballroom, break dancing. The list can go on for years. All these different types of styles started from the same base. They all wanted to express themselves.
African dances are interpretative. It utilizes the concept poly-rhythm and total body movement. The dance teaches value, help people work, praise or criticizes members of the community while celebrating festivals and funerals. These dances are largely participatory, with spectators being a part of the performance.
Ballroom dance is a whole different ball game. It is a partner dance, which is enjoyed both socially and competitively. Ballroom dance is referred to any type of social dancing as recreation. This type of dance is expressive but it is showed in a classy and settle manner. This style of dance is in a relaxed, easy atmosphere.
And finally break dancing, which is type of street dancing. This style likes to dance to hip hop and especially break-beats, an instrumental or percussion section – being a ‘‘break’’ from the main parts of the song. This style is more of an improvisational dance. Dancers try their hardest to show off the coolest moves they got. They are trying to show their opponents up.
With all these different styles, people are able to find who they are. They dance when they’re mad, sad and even when they’re happy. They use dance to escape the world and express how they are feeling. So Dance to express, not to impress.

Types of Computers
ReplyDeleteThere are many terms used to describe computers. Most of these words imply the size, expected use or capability of the computer. While the term “computer” can apply to pretty much any device that has a microprocessor in it, most people think of a computer as a device that receives input from the user through a mouse or keyboard, processes it in some way and displays the result on a screen. Computers can be divided into five types according to the purpose they are used for and their capabilities.
The most familiar type of microprocessor is the personal computer (PC). It designed for general use by a single person. While a Mac is also a PC, most people relate the term with systems that run the Windows operating system. PCs were first known as microcomputers because they were a complete computer but built on a smaller scale than the huge systems used by most businesses. A PC can come in two types (three if we include the Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that differ from PCs not by the working policy but in appearance as well.): Desktop and laptop. They are not designed for portability. The expectation with desktop systems is that you will set the computer up in a permanent location. Most desktops offer more power, storage and are capable of doing many things for less cost than a portable computer. On the other hand, the laptops - also called notebooks - are portable computers that integrate the display, keyboard, a pointing device or trackball, processor, memory and hard drive all in a battery-operated package slightly larger than an average hardcover book.
Another purpose for using a microprocessor is as a workstation. The computers used for this purpose have a more powerful processor, additional memory and enhanced capabilities for performing a special group of task, such as 3D Graphics or game development.
A computer can also be used as a server. For this, it needs to be optimized to provide services to other computers over a network. Servers usually have powerful processors, lots of memory and large hard drives.
A fourth type, a main frame is the heart of a network of computers or terminals which allows hundreds of people to work at the same time on the same data. It is absolutely necessary for the business world.
Sometimes, computers can be used for specialized fields as well. The supercomputer is the top of the heap in power and expense. It is used for jobs that take massive amounts of calculating, like weather forecasting, engineering design and testing, serious decryption, and economic forecasting.
With the increasing demand in different specialties, new adjustments are being made to microprocessors and new types of computers that serve different purposes. In this ongoing process, it’s not possible to put a full stop here. What we suggest is that it’s better to keep an eye on the development of science in this field and keep updating our knowledge in order not to be out-of-date like the computers of old times that were as big as a room.

Cell Phone User’s
ReplyDeleteWith the dawn of the 21st century, a rise in the technological advancement of mankind has become increasing observable, from the new advances in objects as trivial as the Ipod to inventions that landed a rover on Pluto. One device which i’m sure you have all heard of is the most prominent of these new creations: the cell phone, and just as the rover needs pilots, the cell phone requires users. Cell phone users can be grouped into categories very easy, three basis’ of classification could be frequency of use, dependence, and purpose. For this essay, I have decided to go with dependence.
All cell phone users can be grouped into three classes based on their dependence: the addicted, the moderately dependent, and the non-dependent.
Addicted users are the type of people that you see typing away on their phones in the middle of a conversation, and when they take a break they have no recollection what you said to them for the past several minutes. These people are compelled to be on their phone for most of their free time, or at least try to use it at every chance they get. If they are separated from it, they may feel a type of withdrawal symptoms, which usually include fidgeting and a short-temper. Children who have been born from 1997 onwards and have possessed a cell phone for most of their lives are the most likely to have this type of dependency.
Moderately dependent users are the type of people who use cell phones, well, moderately. Moderately dependent users use their phones for business, friends, and all the things that an Addicted user uses their phone for. The difference between the two lays in the fact when a moderate is separated from their mobile device, they may feel a tad frustrated, but suffer no real drawbacks unlike the Addict. They are also capable of easily putting down their cell phone to have a conversation without texting or checking for messages. Any person who has a cell phone can be this type of dependent, as it’s usually what comes right before becoming addicted.
Finally we come to the final category, the non-dependent. These are the type of people that you barely ever see on their phones, the conservative type that only uses them for emergencies or business when absolutely necessary, many even forget to turn their cell phones on in the morning. These people tend to range from mid twenties to late sixties, as they only got cell phone’s when they were a long way through their lives.
All three of these categorizations are easily seen throughout the world now days, just walk outside and I guarantee you will see one or two people on their cell phones, either during a conversation with someone, while running, for business and every other trivial task that you can think of. Cell phones are part of our culture now, part of everyday life. But let’s at least try to remember that the little pixels flashing inside the screen can’t replace reality, let’s at least try not to be consumed by the virtual world, and remember we live in one thats right outside your door.

ReplyDeleteAttitudes toward School
ReplyDeleteEveryone has to go to school, but not everybody has the same attitude towards it. There are the students that go to learn, the students that go to socialize, and the ones who don’t want to be there at all. I’m sure you’ve seen these different types of attitudes in your class room and even have one of your own.
The students who go to school to learn are the most effective students and usually get the best grades. This group is usually referred to as the “nerds”. These students don’t waste time and want to get the most out of their school day. Even at home they continue to work and study in order to get the best grades that they can.
The second group is the students who are at school purely to socialize. They look at school as another place to be with friends. They are too busy talking to a friend or texting to pay attention to what is going on. In my opinion, this is the most distracting group. They may do some of their work, but try to do as little as possible because more work would take away from their social lives.
Last are the students who would rather not be at school at all. These students would rather be anywhere else besides a class room. They will look for an excuse to leave the class or not even be at school at all. The last thing that these students would do is their work. Anything related to school, they don’t like.
Everyone has their own views and opinions when it comes to school. You may find that you relate more to one category than another, but we all have days where are attitude towards school can change. Your attitude can also vary from class to class. Next time you’re in class pay attention to other people’s behaviors and try to figure out what category everyone falls in.

High school lifestyles
ReplyDeleteMost adults will tell you “high school is the best years of your life”, but is that really true? Is it true for everyone? Hardly. Yes, high school is the last of your childhood days, but not everyone’s high school experience is all fun and games.
There are the partiers who represent the expectations of what high school is. They spend every night going out, drinking, smoking, partying, and whatever else. They rarely show up to school, and when they do, they don’t do any work. But hey, they are enjoying the last of their childhood days, they are making their high school years memorable.
In total contrast of the partiers are the nerds. The nerds are the kids who spend their nights at home studying for that big test, get straight A’s, they are home on most Friday nights watching movies or playing video games, and almost never get in trouble. They may not be making a memorable high school experience, but they are setting themselves up for great futures; delayed gratification.
In between the partiers and nerds are the regular high schoolers. They manage to find a balance between the two. They go out with their friends, they do their work, they get average-good grades, and they occasionally get into trouble with their parents. They set their selves up for a stable enough future, while still having a memorable high school experience.
There are many ways to go about high school, you can make it as memorable as possible, but have no future. You can spend it studying and getting good grades, but set themselves up for booming futures. Or you can spend it going out, but not too much, while still setting yourself up with a moderate and stable future. These are the lifestyles of high school

Angry Sports Fans vs. People Who Just Want to Enjoy the Game
ReplyDeleteIf you have been to a live game, watched a televised sporting event, or even played in one yourself you have surely witnessed the two main categories of sports fans. There are those who watch simply to enjoy the thrill of the game and to support friends, family, or a favorite team. Then there are the angry, loud, and somewhat scary fans. I hope that everyone who reads this, is, or at least tries to be someone who is a good, respectable sports fan.
The first type of fan, (people who just want to enjoy the game) are often avid supporters of the team. A lot of times these people are mothers of a player on the team. They come to watch their child play well. They come to enjoy their child and watch them get better and have fun. People who just want to enjoy the game are often good sports. They are happy no matter how the game turns out. This type of fan is always yelling cheers of encouragement. They never single out or belittle one member of the team. Also they have faith that all the players are doing their best and the referees are doing their best to call a fair game. These types of fans are enjoyable to be around and make watching the game fun. They don’t rag on people or complain the whole time. They have a good spirit and a good attitude.
The second type of fan, (angry sports fans) give off a much different vibe than people who are just looking to enjoy the game. They are often found yelling inappropriate words or yelling at single players in a game. They bring the players and the other fans around them down. People are often times offended by the angry sports fans. Angry sports fans are convinced that the referee is always out to get them or their team. They use harsh and unnecessary language. Angry sports fans make watching the game uncomfortable and stressful and they bring a bad vibe to the event. They are very bad sports and can’t stand to lose. If the game does not go their way they explode with anger and lash out on those around them. Unlike good sports fans they have a bad attitude and are only focused on winning rather than enjoying a good game.
Often times you are never one type or the other. You have your moments of each type. You may yell at the referee and then give someone a high five. All I can ask is that you try to minimalize you’re your angry sports fan impulses and that you do your best to try and be someone who comes to enjoy the game and makes it enjoyable for others at the same time. This is always better. For those of you who cant help being and will always be an angry sports fan, I say If your going to yell, yell as loud as you can!

Bad Driving habit
ReplyDeleteThe world is full of bad drivers. They scour the globe making driving perfectly unsafe for you and your loved ones for a Sunday drive and are notorious for making you late for work or other gatherings. They are usually at their worst on Mondays. As much as you complain about others drivers while driving, you could possibly be one of them. The all have different habits of driving. The most well known bad drivers are the Impatient, The Arrogant, and the Distracted drivers.
An impatient driver is easy to spot, for he is the one who speeds from stop to stop, weaving themselves in and out of traffic. If he is unable to do that, he resorts to tailgating you in an annoying manner. He might be paying close attention to what he is doing but fails to realize that he is disrupting traffic and putting himself in a position of a potential car crash. These drivers are the drivers that are probably late to work or some other meeting. These drivers need to take a chill pill.
As an impatient driver is simply in a hurry, the Arrogant driver is purposely in a hurry. These drivers are also known as “road divas”, or “road princesses”. Arrogant drivers think they own the road and all drivers should yield to them. They have little or no respect for any of the traffic laws or the rights or right of way for drivers and pedestrians. These imbeciles pass you for absolutely no reason on a no pass zone and take dangerous risks to themselves and other drivers with no care whatsoever. There is nothing to gain and too much to lose. The only remedy to an arrogant driver is a reality check.
The award for the stupidest drivers are the distracted drivers. Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in other activities such as texting, eating, Etc. This sort of habit is found more in teenagers and people under 25 than people in their 30’s and middle ages. You have probably witnessed on many accounts of girls applying makeup or brushing their hair while driving, these maniacs clearly think that hygiene is more important than what is on the road ahead of them. The most well known example of a distracted driving is texting and driving. Driving is very unpredictable and needs utmost attention. Texting and driving prohibits the safety of yourself and the others who are driving.
As much as we dislike bad drivers, there is nothing you can do to get rid them. If you have a friend that is a bad driver, then please by all means tell them what they can do to be a safer driver. If your friend is texting then without hesitation swipe that phone out of their hands, or if they are speeding down a 30 mph tell them to slow down and stop being a reckless driver. Doing these actions will not only make you safer but everyone else who is driving safer.

DeleteI really liked this essay :) It flowed really nicely and i really liked how in each paragraph there was at least one or two comical statements. I liked how you made these bad drivers seem like the scum of the earth, true villains. Reading you essay made me really feel like they were out to get me! Good advice in your conclusion that we should try to correct the errors of the people we know.

ReplyDeleteThe Three Main Styles of Fighting
ReplyDeleteMixed martial arts, more commonly known as MMA, is a rapidly growing sport involving a head to head battle between two men (or women) in which they ultimately try to "beat the other up". The winner is declared by either a stoppage, which occurs when one fighter quits or is unable to defend himself, or by judges decision. Though this sport may seem more savage than entertaining, it happens to be one of the most strategic and stylistic art forms of our modern world. Currently the three main fighting styles are boxing, muy thai, and wrestling. Each and every fighter has their very own style which is in someway a variation, derivation or combination of one or more of these styles.
First off are the boxers. Many people think boxing only consists of punching, they would be right. Any fighter who wants to have a solid standing game has some type of boxing integrated into their style. However, dedicated boxers do not use kicks and often have no skills on the ground, making them an easy target for Muy Thai kickers and grapplers.
Next comes fighters with a Muy Thai background. These fighters use their elbows, knees, and kicks to inflict the most damage on their opponent. These fighters would like to be at either a far range where they are safe from punches, or close up in the clinch where they can hold on to their adversary and punish them with close range elbows and knees until they collapse to the mat. Muy Thai backgrounds do run into trouble though if a skilled boxer is able to break their clinch and keep and the right distance to light them up with a combination of head and body strikes.
Lastly are the grapplers, including wrestlers and Jiu Jitsu artists. The most tactical of fighting styles is also the hardest to defend against. These types of fighters bring the fight to the ground where wrestlers gain the top position and rain down punches onto their opponent. Jiu Jitsu artists like the ground as well, where they tie up their opposer and leave them unconscious or with a broke limb. However, if not able to acquire a takedown then their lack of stand up skills leave them easy pickings for boxers.
All mixed martial artists have styles or strategies taken from at least one of these styles and while none clearly dominates the others, the fighters who have successfully blended them together have been most successful.

Three Ways to View the World
ReplyDeleteIf an individual were to take a closer look, there would be three outstanding perspectives amongst society: the optimist, the pessimist, and the realist. The optimist cannot help but observe the glass as half full, the pessimist cannot help observe the glass as half empty, while the realist cannot help but see a mere cup of water. But which perspective is the most beneficial, not only for one’s own well being, but for society as well?
The optimists’ general attitude towards situations is predominantly positive. They premeditate the best outcomes, and do not focus on negative outcomes. As an optimist digs deeper into his or her views, he or she will find that nature, the past, present and future operates through optimism. Meaning that everything is believed to originate from the general idea of optimism. The challenges for optimists are often related to an overwhelming amount of hope in a situation that doesn’t necessarily deserve that hope.
Unlike the optimist, the pessimists’ mindset is influenced by negative thoughts. Pessimists’ don’t always see the bad in things, but intend to look for the bad in things. Anticipating the worst of situations has become habitual for the pessimist, kind of like a second nature. Often times, pessimists will oppose any other ideas or opinions from an optimist or a realist. At least the pessimist is prepared for the worst.
And last but not least, there is the realist. The realists’ perspective is often to see things for how they really are. For example, if there were two sides to an argument, the realist would perceive it as a whole story instead of choosing a side, most likely because they don’t care. As a realist, the challenges are being nonchalant to every situation, which could make them come off as senseless. The realist normally has a tough time forming relationships, but the ones they do form are worthy.
In conclusion, most people will come to a consensus that the optimists’ attitude is the most desirable because of the power of positive thinking. However, the optimist could also suffer from a lack of a sense of reality. That’s where the realist becomes beneficial for society. Without the realists, our modern world would be filled with too many ideas resulting in a chaotic and desperate world. The pessimists are beneficial to individuals and society because there is never a rainbow without a little bit of rain. In other words, at least the pessimist is prepared for life’s misfortunate moments. Ultimately, our society needs balance and with the three perspectives, most would say our society depends on a balance of all three perspectives.
Dear Marina,
DeleteI thought the flow of the essay was perfect! You really got all the perspectives of the different ways to see the world. With every description I was able relate to these perspectives and understand why some one would chose their viewpoint as a realist, optimist, or pessimist. It was a great essay and I enjoyed reading it.

Cafeteria Cliques
ReplyDeleteIn all movies about high school students there are cliques that dominate specific tables in the cafeteria. Movies of course tend to replicate and portray the behaviors of human beings. Although sometimes unrealistic the movies are right, there are cliques everywhere, especially in high school. Individuals who share a common ground tend to stick together.
In my school there’s the sports players who occupy a good two lunch tables in the cafeteria. Common characteristics of these people are supporter shirts, expensive sunglasses and backpacks and Vans or Nike shoes. They play a range of sports from tennis to football and are usually of the male variety, grades 9-12 accepted. During soccer season the soccer girls all share a lunch table close to the other sports players, the same goes for the swim team. Sports players are often top-of-the-class students.
Then there’s the north shores, as I call them. Originating from the area between Kilauea and Ha’ena the north shores come in a variety pack. Some are surfers, some are known for their racy clothing choices and others come from more privileged families (often residing in Princeville). The north shores are usually caucasian but sometimes there’s a little Hawaiian or Filipino mixed in. North shores typically live a sketchy lifestyle, involving activities dangerous to their health and bragging about said activities. Usually not found in the cafeteria, these people can be seen at the concrete benches by the end of the I building and occasionally standing outside the cafeteria doorway.
The titas and mokes occupy a good amount of space at this school, so naturally they have cliques too. However, since most of them come from fierce pacific-islander backgrounds they tend to display violence and therefore have many small opposing groups rather than one big one. These people are not usually the brightest students but their cultural differences set them apart. This group takes up as many tables as they want and if anyone wants to challenge that, who am I kidding, nobody wants to risk being smashed to pieces by one of them.
There are many smaller groups such as ROTC and Civil Air Patrol members, the geeky gamer guys, the Filipinos/Asians and the KPAC/movie nerds. Anyone from any clique can be friends with someone from another group and those people, in turn, create their own friend group comprised of individuals from other groups.
Overall there really is no popular group like there usually is in movies. There are only many large groups and many small groups that feed off the main cliques; sports players, north shores and the titas and mokes. I see the school as a huge machine that organizes people together by their similarities.

Self Pity
ReplyDeleteSelf pity is a disease draining the vitality of humans around the world- universe if you want to include depressed astronauts woeing their desolate fates in space for years at a time-. There are times when feeling bad for yourself is some what healthy, and there are times when it is downright shameful to waste precious life being miserable over either miniscule, or monumental sufferings. It is imperative to know difference, because if lacking this quality, so much of life can be wasted in anguish for both the self-pittier and the unfortunate by-standers around them.
People might feel bad for themselves for any number of reasons; They failed a test that they worked so hard to study for. Their parents yelled at them for not doing the dishes, forgetting it was your siblings turn that night. They don't like their face. They inflicted some excruciating disablement. Their dog was run over by a neighbor. It is normal to feel sorrow in any of these circumstances, but never must we let them consume us. There is a time that the grieving must end.
When contemplating your sorrows in the process of defeating them and moving on, you are engaging in a healthy habit. Sometimes it is necessary to explain your frustrations with a confident, as their input or maybe their simple benevolence of listening can make things much clearer to you. Depending on the severity of the injustice you received, your recovery time should be anywhere from 5 minutes of inward name calling and hateful thoughts, to a day or two of moving on.
The wrong way to treat self pity is to wallow in it incessantly. You forgot your cell phone at home and now you cant text back the boy you like because your mom wont take you back home to get it? Don't sulk the whole way to Costco! Something red dropped in the washer and all your school shirts have turned a Shirley temple pink? Get over it and go to school! Your pet fish Gilbert jumped out of his tank and suffocated... This should not ruin your entire Wednesday my friend!
The world is out there and it's big and beautiful and waiting for us. Feeling sorry for any reason besides moving on is absolutely repulsive. We all do it, but it's time to STOP- because why waste a day complaining about the thorns when you could be smelling the roses?

Dear Zuri,
DeleteI so agree with your message you are bringing forth with your essay. Dreading over things for too long only just brings you, and you alone, down. I heard a quote today which say, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Using the same concept, if we keep moping for so long, we get so used to getting brought down by the littlest things. We need to just break that habit and force ourselves to get over it and eventually it will get easier to get through our daily problems and move on. I like the humor you bring to your essays, it makes it so much more fun to read and it really grabs my attention.

Types of College Students
ReplyDeleteAlright, so it’s your very first day of college and you don’t know what to expect. Will you be accepted? Will you pass your classes? Will you actually learn? All will be found out later on. So you’re walking through the halls towards your dorm and notice eyes scouring you. Then you notice something yourself: everyone falls into a stereotype. There are many different college stereotypes creeping in the shadows of the higher end of society.
First, you’ve got the average Joe. This guy doesn’t want any trouble, he just wants to go through college with his B average and just get through it. Sure, he gets invited to parties, maybe he gets laid once in awhile, but he’s not very out-going. Ever watch a movie with background actors? There are your average Joes of the college scene. Heck, some of them might not even go to your college; they’re just there to hang out with some of their friends between classes. Try to make good friends with these kinds of people. You never know, one of them could end up being your life long partner.
Next, you’ve got your heavy partiers. There is almost nothing these young adults won’t drink or do. Ever seen a booze funnel? That would be these characters’ best friend. Some of these people never seem to be sober, making you wonder how they even got accepted into the university in the first place. It is generally recommended to stay away from any heavy partiers unless you feel like getting wasted that Saturday. College? Not a good place to have a bad hangover. These people also may be involved with marijuana. But then again, it’s college so who isn’t?
The last but not least generic stereotype would be the brains. These nerds won’t stop studying and kissing bum until they pass away from some explosion in the brain. Watch out for these guys, they may jeopardize you if it means getting them their beloved A+. Say thank you to God if you get one as a roommate, though. Notes. Copy that shiz, copy it twice. Because if brains are good for anything, it’s their smarts.

Attitudes towards working
ReplyDeleteMany people I know already have jobs, as I do as well. But peoples attitudes towards working vary in many ways. For some people, they actually like their job and work not just because they need money but because its really something that their interested in. Other people work just because of the money, they sometimes even hate there job but still keep it because they want the cash. On the other hand, some prefer to work because its something for them to do. They don't want to go home everyday after school and sit on the couch while watching TV. No, they want to be productive with their time.
The first group of workers are the teenagers who actually like working and the job that they have, it often results in that work will go by faster for them and they will get a lot more done. Teens who are happy with their job tend to add in a positive way to the business, if they have a positive attitude it will almost always bring in more sales and rub off on the costumer. If you have a job that you really enjoy, then your making money but at the same time doing something you like and its not like a chore. These workers are typically really put together. They are good students and when things need to be done they accomplish them right away.
Now the second group of people are the workers who have a job just because they want the money, but also hate there job at the same time. But I totally get wanting to have some cash. Being a teenager is quite expensive, whether its needing money for gas, food, new clothes, or even that $200 bikini that is just so cute you just have to have it. But working and hating your job is not the way to go. These types of people most of the time give off a bad vibe to customers, and as an effect they end up not purchasing anything. This group of workers who don't enjoy their job are not very productive, and don't have much motivation to help the business succeed. These workers are typically not that self motivated. They cant be relied on some of the time, and you need to tell them twice or even more what needs to be done.
On the other hand, the third group of workers are the people who feel like they need to always be productive. They don't necessarily work for the money or because they like or dislike the job, but because they feel like it will occupy there time they would be spending on something that doesn't matter. Now this group of kids are usually involved in a lot of things that will take up their time, for example sports, after school activities, clubs, etc. They could either be amazing or average students in school. They work to add it to their never ending list of things that they do because they feel like they have to do everything.
Everyone has their own opinions and views when it comes to why people choose to work and what their real reasons are to it. Some days people might even become a different type of worker than the day before. The next time you're thinking about work try to come up with which one fits you the best, and if its not the type you want, you can always make a change whenever.

Out of all the reading genres in the world romance novels are the better option. For me I am a hopeless romantic so that’s why I prefer reading romance. Not only that but there’s just something in the way that they use language that just speak to you. It’s not all princes and princesses but childhood crushes and high school sweethearts. There also the romance novels where they fall in love , get separated, then reunited once more. Once you start a romance novel you just can’t stop and put it down. Plus there are many types of romance tragedy, action, humor. My favorite author is Nicholas sparks the notebook it told the tale of their romance and how he never gave up and in the end they died together.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I am reading one of her books called “The Best of Me” it’s where small town bad boy and the perfect rich girl daughter. His strived to be different from his family and moved out and into the garage of the towns lunatic which wasn’t really true he just fixed up classic cars. Senior year he finally get the girl only to let her go because he doesn’t want her to grow distant from her parents, so they go separate ways . Many years later they return to their hometown he’s still single living in a trailer located in louisiana, while she’s married in a loveless marriage with kids. They meet again and start to have flashbacks of their time together. That is how far I got but I feel like I know what it means to finally meet your other half only to be let go and meet years later while you are in a loveless marriage wishing it were you and him not some stranger. But the passion behind the words make you feel the love and loss through the characters. I really hope this persuaded you the reader to prefer reading romance novels than whatever your normal reading genre.

ReplyDeleteThe four ways to practice piano
ReplyDeleteMany people take piano lessons during their childhoods. Some of them like it, and others do not. There are four different ways that you can go about practicing the piano. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Some leave you short on time while others not get you very far.
One way you can practice piano is to practice everyday. This does take a lot of time and dedication, but you will find that you are able to learn songs very quickly. You also advance your knowledge of how to play the piano equally as fast. If you are able to sustain this way of practicing you will quickly leave your less disciplined peers in the dust. If you have a fair amount of inborn talent this is the most surefire way to become a professional pianist. The down side to this is you don’t have much time of other things. If you are in school it can be hard to do a sport, practice piano for an hour and then do your homework. You will have very little free time, so if you do not enjoy playing the piano and if it doesn't make you happy this method of practice will leave you feeling rather unhappy.
Another way to practice is not one that you can really pick. You either have it, or you don’t. It is the ability to hear a song and then play it or ‘playing by ear’. If you are able to do this you can easily learn songs that other people struggle with. Although this may seem like the best way to learn the piano, it does have its disadvantages. Very few people are able to do this and those who can often become lazy and never learn how to read sheet music. This becomes a distinct disadvantage later on when songs become harder. Playing by ear can get you pretty far, and be a cool party trick, but if you want to play piano for a living you will have to learn to read music.
The Third way to practice piano is to fake it. You don’t practice all week and then the day before you lesson you practice like there is no tomorrow! Occasionally you will end up not learning your songs and having to keep them another week, especially as your songs become harder. But in the beginning this is a practice style does work well. You are able to enjoy free time during most of the week and only really have to practice the day before you lesson. However these can only get you so far, you will eventually need to start practice everyday if you wish to further your learning of the piano.
The last way is to not practice at all except for at your lessons. This is a very risky way to go though, so I do not recommend it. If you do this you will often end up having to repeat the same few songs for weeks before you are able to move on. Occasionally you will get lucky and ‘learn’ a song but not very often. Use this technique only if you wish to quit playing piano but are unable to for some reason. You will not get very far practicing piano this way, but you will have a lot of free time. If you find yourself practicing like this, or rather not practicing like this. You should probably reconsider your enrollment in piano lessons.
These are the four different ways that I have observed people practicing piano. Each have their own martes depending on what you are trying to gain from playing piano. No one way is the best, they depend on you. Although, you certainly gain more from some than others. In the end it is up to you, but keep in mind that piano should be something you like to do, not something you have to do.

ReplyDeleteTypes of emotions
ReplyDeleteWith work, clubs, organizations, school, family, and friends, life can get pretty overwhelming. Juggling so many tasks all at once can put a strain on your body not only physically and mentally but also emotionally. It’s significant for an individual to choose what type of emotion they choose to live or it will control them. The 4 basic types of emotions (well at least for me) are mad, lazy, sad, and happy.
When a person is mad, their way of thinking gets clouded and their vision gets hazier. Often enough, they refuse to listen to others and in this state; they only want to do what’s best for them. Being mad also consists of being impatient. When a person is mad, there is a wild beast (untamed) within them, that desires to be fueled by time, food, money or could even be other emotions that needs to be reciprocated. If that person ever does calm down, usually they’ll feel apologetic towards the people they’ve caused pain towards; however, the person that has been hurt may or may not reciprocate those feelings so it’s critical to best avoid this emotion.
Next common emotion is laziness. When a person is lazy, usually they lack a sense of motivation. Lazy people can be commonly identified as couch potatoes. They are being referred to this term because all they can accomplish is sitting on a couch. They look forward to TV shows, and distract themselves from manual work. There are no real benefits of becoming lazy. Despite these unrelenting truths “laziness”, these types of people are occasionally finding ways to make life a bit easier and can be marked as innovative.
Third is sadness. Being sad establishes nothing but pure darkness. Life gets gloomy and everything becomes uninteresting. With my own personal experience, when I’m sad I feel like I’m in a vortex of funk. As that vortex hooks on to you, and you go deeper and deeper hole, life then becomes numb and nothing is pure. You start to think very negatively and other people will not want to associate with you. Being sad really can’t be solved overnight. It takes time and a person to talk to because they normally feel lonely. Sadness is experienced by everyone and reminds us that we are all human beings.
Last, is the emotion of happiness. Being happy is more than just a smile on your face. It glows from within and other people can sense it. Being happy is contagious! So with that being said, I believe that this emotion is the most useful one to grab on to. Although sadness, confirms that you are a human being, and laziness makes you more innovative, acquiring happiness ultimately leads to great self-esteem. When you are a happy, boundless opportunities awaits you. Happiness is a vibe that lets your enemies know you’re winning and that you are not being phased by them. Happiness can be transcribed as a gift because not everyone has it. This particular emotion is not just one feeling, it’s a mixture of accomplishment, bravery, determination, and hope. With this emotion set, life flows much easier. Greater level of rewards is granted that of a happy person.

Different Types of Bodyboarders
ReplyDeleteAfter being in the water a lot, I have seen different bodyboarder attitudes over time. Though over that time three kinds just really stick out and are the most general. You got the cruisers, trickers, and judgers. These three kinds of bodyboarders, to me, generally will let me know what kind of day this bodyboarding sesh will be. Allow me to elaborate.
The cruisers, are as the name says, cruise. They are just along for the ride. Personally, bodyboarding with cruisers is awesome. They mean no harm, but only seek to have fun and catch waves. So with these people, worrying if you might have cut them off or got in their way is no biggy. To spot a cruiser is very simple. They either have a happy face on or just a blank face.
The trickers, go to do tricks when down at the beach. Some trickers are cool. They real cruise and really don’t get mad at you that much. But some can get nasty. The ones that get nasty are to watch out for because if you do anything that hinders their doing of a trick, they may take it seriously. So watch out. To spot trickers are very easy. Just look for the ones doing sick tricks. The nice trickers got smile. To spot a nasty one, just watch their face when someone gets in their way.
Lastly, are the judgers. These guys are the ones that can really ruin your day. They go to the beach and it seems all they want to do is judge you on every little thing you do. Your day at the beach all depends on how you take their judgements. To really spot a judger you need to actually get in the water.
So whenever you go down the beach to go bodyboard or surf, look for the three kinds of people. I guarantee you will find them. Seeing which ones are there may or may not impact your day.

Love, it’s a very complex thing, and there are many different types of love. First there are infatuations, which can be dangerous or rewarding. An infatuation in someone is being very attracted to someone you don’t know much about. When you become infatuated with someone, you can’t stop thinking about them and that’s when you start crushing. Infatuations can be fun, I mean it’s always nice to have someone to look cute for and try to impress. But getting too excited can make this little crush, crush you’re feelings, so take it slow and something wonderful might just come out of it.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there’s the love you feel towards the people you truly care about. The love you feel towards your friends, family and maybe even a boyfriend or girlfriend. With this love, the people involved make you feel good about yourself, yes you may fight sometimes but you can’t stay mad at them for too long. When you love someone, you adore everything they are, even the parts you hate. Loving someone doesn’t have to do with looks, gender, or age. It’s about being comfortable and happy, and all the special times shared that will always bring you back to their side.
The most unique kind of love is being in love with someone, because yes you can love someone, but you may not be in love with someone. The scary thing about being in love with someone is it can last a lifetime or just a moment in life. Being in love with someone is the greatest kind of love because it’s the love that has grown; from having a crush, or infatuation, to loving a person for who they are, to being completely in love, all cards on the table. Being in love with someone is one of the hardest things to do because you give up yourself to someone completely. So yes it is the scariest kind of love but when it’s done right, it can be the deepest.

There are many types of friends but there are only 4 types of friends everyone should have. Everyone should have a friend that's straight up honest, a friend with a great sense of humor, a friend who's up for anything and a wise friend.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a friend who's honest without being harsh around because she will not always tell you what you want hear, but they will definitely tell you what you need to know. If you've got a crisis on your hand or need to make a quick decision, they're the ones you call. This type of friend will have the guts to tell you the truth when no one else will.
A sense of humor is one of the most important qualities in a friend. A friend with a great sense of humor can help boost up the mood anywhere. A good sense of humor can make people to accept the harsh realities of life. This type of friend will help us forget our stress and worries and is certainly the friend to make you laugh till your stomach hurts.
Everyone needs a friend who's up for anything. Someone who doesn't cancel out and reschedule all the time. A friend who doesn't mind doing things with you, whenever you want. This friend will always be through for you when you need someone to hang out with because they will make time for you.
Having a wise friend is important to have because you can copy their homework. But most importantly they can guide you through a hard situation. A wise friend gives you good advice and lectures. They can always point out what you need to do to be a better person, and will talk you out of doing something you’ll regret.
What kind of friend are you, whether you’re an honest or wise friend, be sure to always be through for your friend because you they’ll be there for you when you need them. Friends are the ones you go too talk about your problems and the ones you can always count in to have your back no matter what.

Different Types of Artists
ReplyDeleteYou enter the art room; a complex puzzle of clashing media. A girl sits at a desk directly in front of you, she effortlessly decorates her sketchbook page in a labyrinth of meticulous detail. Multiple graphite pencils of various hardnesses lay abound her in a stubby collection, mingling with paper stumps, and a singular art eraser, all of which show clear signs of use. To your right a girl focuses with placid attention at her easel. The dimples of her canvas fill with rich colors and swooping lines; a delicate scene of rolling fields takes form within the thick of the paint. Brushes bundle askew in a large jar, while crumpled tubes of acrylic paint lay still beneath. She is adorn with smudges and speckled with splatters. And to your left a boy bites his lip; staring at a blob of earthy beige material which sits stalled on the smooth of his pottery wheel. Steadily it takes form morphing into its figure; an elegant curvy vase with two curling handles resting effortlessly upon its hips. He pulls his hands away chalky dust bathing them a pale hue and filling their wrinkles with white powder. He continues to manipulate the delicate figure with subtle details.
Those that prefer particularity and pencils are among the sketchers. Sketch artists take an attraction to the finer detail; crisp pinpoint intricate lines paired with accurate shading is their expertise. Studious like attention is paid in these areas because its in their framework. Working with sharp pencil points provokes this action, it calls for focus on specifics of design; value, line, depth, texture, form all has to be accurate and precise.
Relaxation and paintbrushes are the weapons of choice by painters. Painters live within the flow of their work; expertly skilled in creating winding weaves with striking dabs of paint. They are open to interpretation due to the forgiving nature of a paintbrush. The brush trains the mind to accept, depending on the size, the brush will take some control out of the artists hands. This is reflected in the non uniform rhythmic qualities of a painted picture.
With craving for what you can grasp in the third dimension, ceramicists have to be patient and open-minded; willing to grow and morph along with their clay. Detailings vary from involved too simplistic. Its all within the will of the ceramicist their drive can be found in the finer traditional detailings, or abstract melodic flow.
The sketcher, the painter, and the ceramicist are three of many distinct types of artists who have particular flare and personality that corresponds with their media.

Fairy Tales
ReplyDeleteThere are hundreds an hundreds of different fairy tales. There are those that are evil and gruesome. There are some that have been incorporated for little kids. And there are some for adults.
The first type of fairy tale are the original fairy tales. These were often told to children by their parents and had a point to help teach the child a lesson. These would be told often at bedtime and were sometimes even made up on the spot or incorporated with a tribes lore. These fairy tales would be gruesome and deadly to scare the child against something or to listen to parents and since then have been tames into the mild tales we call bedtime stories.
Other fairy tales have been turned into kids stories. These often are derived from German stories such as those told by the Brothers Grimm. An example of these is the classical kids tale of Snow White. the original story had it where she had a sister named Rose Red who was just as beautiful as her. In it the prince was actually a bear cursed by dwarves who had stolen his gold. The two sisters kill the dwarves and each marry the prince and one of his brothers. This was molded into a movie by Disney.
The third type of fairy tales i consider are most religions. My favorite type of religion is the Greek faith because of how creative and diverse it is. A more down to earth and less creative religion is Buddhism. It focuses more on reincarnation and ideas related to the world around us. These different types of tales and myth are all creative and diverse but are all have one thing in common, they derive from the human mind.

Types of Pitchers
ReplyDeleteThe pitcher is arguably the most important position in the game of baseball. To the average sports fan, a pitcher is just that, a pitcher. But to avid fans, there is a distinct difference. If you watch closely enough, one game can be a tell tale sign of what category each pitcher falls into. There are three main categories.
The first type is the pitch-to-contact pitcher. This is usually the sinker-ball pitchers that attempt to induce ground balls. They do this in order to keep their defense involved. These pitchers tend to not rack up as many strikeouts as other pitchers, but also give up less home runs. They get the job done, but it’s nothing special. The best example of this would be Cleveland Indians pitcher Justin Masterson. He just enjoyed his first all-star season, thanks in large part to his pitching style.
The next type is the strikeout pitcher. This is the guy everyone wants to see. No matter what happens, the game will most likely be entertaining. They try to miss bats with everything they have. These pitchers tend to have that one pitch that is nearly unhittable. However, on a bad day these pitchers can get absolutely ROCKED. They either get 10+ K’s or give up more than 10 runs. Justin Verlander is the epitome of this type. One year he wins an MVP award, the next he’s a mediocre pitcher. He also perpetually allows 20+ home runs.
The last main type of pitcher is the keep-you-off-balance pitcher. This guy tries to confuse the batter as much as possible. This is largely due to his pitches not being good enough to beat a batter straight up. This guy typically has one pitch that baffles hitters one time, but one time is usually enough. They might be successful for a short period of time, but tend to struggle in the long run. R.A. Dickey is a perfect example of this. Last year, he wins the Cy Young. This year he is hovering around a 5 ERA. The only pitcher like this recently who was able to sustain success is Tim Wakefield, and even he is struggling at this point.
Now aside from these three categories, there is another type of pitcher. I like to call this the Dwight Howard pitcher. He CAN’T MAKE UP HIS MIND on what type he wants to be. The games he pitches are the ones with completely empty seats. NO ONE cares about this guy. He was probably working at Walgreens last week. No examples here because none of these people deserves to get mentioned.
Hopefully after reading this article, you have a better understanding of how different types of pitchers approach their time on the mound.I really do apologize for the fact that if you don’t watch/play baseball you probably don’t understand anything you just read. Well, looks like you have some watching to do! Thanks for the read!

Attitudes on Life
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their own outlook and views on life, I can think of three major aspects. First there are the optimists, always happy. Next the pessimists, who are always skeptical and negative. Lastly there are the people that just go with the flow and are somewhat emotionless to a certain degree. These groups of people can be witnessed in everyday life scattered through out many groups and social cliques.
The optimists just sort of float through life on a big ball of happy. It is rare to see them down. They wield a sort of positive force field, when ever something negative comes their way the positive is always extracted and sent back out. I love to be around these kinds of people, it always seems that their happiness rubs off on you in one way or another. They are a refreshing kind of person, the type of person to point out the good and leave the bad, to always lighten the mood on a dreary day. Sometimes I just don't know how they do it!
On another note there are the pessimists. They are the ones to always find the worry in a good situation or to point out the what if’s in a seemingly perfect plan. These people are always the downers, and usually the last ones invited to any of the fun outings. However, they are always good people to confide in for the truth on a matter for they are usually the ones who will actually answer the question, “ Do these jeans make my butt look fat?”, because they see no reason to fudge the truth. You will nearly always find an optimist and a pessimist close to each other, I believe it is to balance out both of their extreme attitudes, an example to the saying, “Opposites attract.”
On to the last group, the people balanced in between the radical downers and the extremely positive. These people have their ups and downs but never are really stuck on one or the other, they are just there. They are the ones that get really excited at good news and give in to the feelings tragedy brings along. I feel like this is my group, I have my moments of optimism, like when I’m having a really good week or just aced a test. I do however have my pessimistic days as well, when nothing really goes your way, and you just want to go home and crumble in your bed.
Every group has its place in society and as I stated before, are needed to balance out one another in some cases. It is interesting to get to know a person and be able to classify them in to these groups. I noticed that my groups of friends are compromised of a mixture of all of these packs. It just goes to show the variety and the trending in these groups.
Sincerely,
Kai Chase

People In Line
ReplyDeletePeople in their lifetimes spend a lot of their time on a line. Whether it’s a short line, or a long line; a line for a new fun ride, or for your morning coffee at Starbucks. You stand in a line and look at your watch, check your phone, and tap your foot until finally, the wait is over. Everyone waits on a line at some point in their life, and there are many different people, which means there are different attitudes people take on when standing in line.
The first is the rush hour. The rush hour is always in a rush whether its actually rush hour or not. They’re always rolling their eyes when someone else takes too long, freaking out when a friend joins a friend in line and “cuts”, and is always one step ahead of the cashier and wondering why they are “so darn slow”. The rush hour is quite often impolite, must have it their way, and always seems so busy that they couldn’t possibly be bothered with a simple ”hello”.
Then, at the other end of the spectrum we have the ho hums. The ho hums take their sweet time with everything. They seem to move in slow motion and can never decide what they want. They stand and scratch their chins when deciding what coffee type to get, count their money with such slowness its almost as if time has stopped, and whose movements are like those of a slug who can’t seem to understand the point of rushing.
Falling in the middle of the two are the average Joe’s. Average Joes rush to work but slow down during lunch break. They know what they want when it’s their turn to order, but aren’t pushy towards others. They reply to a hello and may even start a conversation. They don’t seem to be bothered by the rush hours or the ho hums, or anyone for the matter. Average Joe’s are the perfect in-betweens.
People have all different personalities when it comes to standing in line. Some days you could be a ho hum and some day you could be a rush hour. It doesn’t matter what type of line stander you are because in the end you will always make it to the register.

The three types of happy☺
ReplyDeleteBy Lauren Benson
Happy. The word in itself can bring so many different images to ones head when presented. Some of you see a drawn smiley face, some a laughing child, or even a sunny day. In my past experiences, you have three stages of happy that are expressed daily and seen threw everyone.
The “Happy vibe” is stage one. This is the stage where your going threw your day in a dream like state. Its almost like your in a bubble. Every type of negative thing that is thrown your way simply bounces off of you and you are able to keep a positive outlook all day long. You can spot these people by the look on their faces. It’s the slight smile on their lips. That is the give away sign.
The “Giddy” stage is number two. You know you’re at this point when you have a slight kick to your step and a butterfly feeling in your tummy. This is the intermediate stage of happiness that can be brought upon easily by a complement from a cute boy/girl or by accomplishing a long-term goal of yours. This stage usually only last for a certain amount of time, but can be brought back again by reflecting back on you cause for happiness the first time.
The final and sadly, least experienced stage of happy is the “Beyond-Happy” stage. This is the hair-rising, electrifying, lurid stage when you want to just laugh all the time. Your smile is so wide it almost hurts. And you want everyone around you to feel exactly the way you do in that moment. This experience is usually the result of a monumental occurrence in your life that makes you extremely happy. Like the birth of a baby, or getting married. Or eating food… haha just kidding! No but seriously…
And these are the tree stages of happy. With this I hope you are able to spot the victims of these three moments and become a part of it yourself.
So don’t worry, be happy!

ReplyDeleteThe Stereotypes of High School
ReplyDelete“High school’s the best years of your life,” they said. As a kid, most of us dreamt of high school as everyone walking around as adults, girls getting into relationships with boys, and the evil teacher that nobody likes slamming a thousand pounds of homework on your desk. And what is it that paints this picture in our heads? I blame television and movies. However, high school isn’t really like how media makes it seem.
At Kapaa High, you’ll find different cliques everywhere, sort of like the cliques in the movies, but not as exaggerated. At this school, you’ll notice the jocks. Unlike on the screens, these jocks aren’t bullies that hang out in one big pack. Actually, there are many different groups of jocks. You have the football boys, the basketball boys, the baseball boys, and soccer boys. They all may play different sports, but they do show similarity with how they dress. You can usually spot a jock if he hangs out with “the in crowd”, wears a hat, with crew socks and vans. These guys just want to hang out, and don’t shake the nerds for their lunch money.
Which brings me to “the nerds”. The nerds in our school aren’t really actual nerds. When I say that word, the first thought to people would usually be described as a person who plays with robots, carries their math book everywhere, and wears glasses. Which isn’t true at our school. The “nerds” at Kapaa are just regular kids who are interested in things that most people aren’t. Sure, you might pass by and overhear them talking about the newest episode of Pokemon, but people never really do give them a chance to get to know them. It amazes me how much they could be themselves at school, without thinking about society judging them, which is something I wish I could do.
Next on the list, you may have seen on TV the queen bees who rule the school. These girls on the shows put on a stereotype that make them look like a total B, and picks on the innocent girls. You would think that the rest of the school bows down to them, since they’re the most popular, but you thought wrong. In my school, these are the girls who are “insta-famous”, and could afford the latest Acacia Swimwear.
There are many other groupies in my school, such as the north shore corner, a group of boys and girls who hang out in a corner full of people residing from Kilauea to Haena. You also have the super smart kids who usually talk about school 24/7, but try to act like they don’t care about it, and the busy people, who are running around campus trying to get stuff done in a certain amount of time. As you can see, my high school does have the cliques that are represented on the screens, but don’t have the personality that’s being acted out.
Sincerely,
Hazel Jarquio

TV Shows
ReplyDeleteThanks to cable, the classification of TV shows are endless. As a teenager, I always find time for my favorite TV shows. As diverse as the people of the world are, so are our channels. There are the supernatural/sci-fi, musical, reality and comedy TV shows. Everybody has their own personal favorite TV show, channel or theme. So what classifies a TV show as supernatural, musical, reality, and comedy? This all depends on the content in the show along with its storylines.
First, we have the supernatural and or sci-fi TV shows. These TV shows usually have well.. non-human or not of this world events. Like vampires and werewolves or even witches and ghosts, under the ocean, in outer space, even in the past or future. Some of the most popular supernatural TV shows today is The Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time. After watching one episode of these types of TV shows, I believe you will be hooked forever.
Second, we have the musical TV shows. Now who doesn't like musical TV shows? You can just have a good time singing along. These shows are usually not just singing, there is usually some storyline or plot along with it, mixed in while they break out in song and dance. Some of the most popular musical TV shows today are Glee and Smash. The fact that these shows get you singing along, and laughing, is what brings you back for more.
Third, we have reality TV shows. These are the shows for people to follow.. well, the lives of other people like us. Crazy I know, but it seems that people enjoy the aspect that they can watch their favorite celebrity or just regular people like them on TV, in their basic everyday life. Some of the most popular reality TV shows today is Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Jersey Shore. The general viewer, who are mostly teens like the fact that they can follow celebrities lives in their everyday events, this is what gets them to watch, and keeps them watching.
And last, we have the feel good comedy TV shows. These TV shows will make you laugh until your stomach hurts. There is usually one or two characters that are truly hilarious, like people we all know only exaggerated with sarcasm or goofyness. Some of the most famous comedy TV shows today are New Girl and The Big Bang Theory. These shows will have you addicted in the first ten minutes, its like you never want to stop watching them because they make real life funny.
The classifications of TV shows is almost endless. Some people are just not into watching TV, and thats okay for them. But for the millions of people who do, when asked, we always have our favorites.
Sincerely,
Aaryn Gray
